Düsseldorf Day 2!!
Weather was bad after Keaton left for work in the morning! Wanted to head out early but it rained heavily! Spent time on Facebook until the rained stopped at 10am. Headed to Hbf to buy a day ticket (valid for all public transport for a day) and stopped by the tourist information centre to get some maps and events information! Saw the brochure about Welcome Card which entitles one to free transport for the valid period, and also to many museums and attractions!
Met Keaton near his workplace for lunch. Düsseldorf is the headquarters for Metro AG, where he's intern-ing at. Thinking back, I can't believe I was actually there!!! Ate lunch in the canteen of one of the many (18 i think) office buildings of Metro. Met some of Keaton's colleagues. All of them were so tall!!! haha. Beautiful canteen, reasonable prices (for their staff) and nice food! :)
Headed to Metro Cash & Carry Store after lunch. It was SO COOL! Never knew about or been to a cash & carry store. Well, that's because Singapore doesn't have any (at least no big & famous ones) and I'm not a business owner!! Had the PRIVILEGE to enter one cos you need to be a member or staff to enter!! :D
The store was SO HUGE!!! There were practically all the items u would find in a super- or hypermarket, and plenty more! Keaton said the store has 500,000 SKUs!! Amazing place!! However, the prices were a bit more expensive than in regular supermarkets. But for businesses, it's KEIN PROBLEM i think! :D
Left at 1:30pm, when the skies turned grey and it rained HEAVILY once again!! Took shelter for 15mins till the rain stopped and headed to Altstadt!!
Decided to purchase the 48-hr WelcomeCard from the tourist information centre for €14, although I still had the Day ticket, which cost €5.20!! Damn lugi if I kept that, so I decided to sell it away!!!
Stood by the ticket machine at a tram station for 20 mins and asked 3 different people who wanted to buy some tickets. But, no deal! Sian... Thought that re-selling tix is common practice in Berlin but maybe not so here in Düsseldorf? Walked around more, ending up at a U-Bahn station. Approached the first couple I saw at the ticket machine and SOLD IT for €4!! Wahaha.. I think I'm really thick-skinned. And I should have gone to the U-bahn station earlier. Wasted 20mins of my time :P
With the Welcome Card, I went to the Film Museum nearby. 4 storeys of Film history, mostly written in German. Browsed through, watched some clips and learnt a bit about Audrey Hepburn! Didn't know why she was so famous cos she's an "old star" but she was so pretty when she was young!! I would love her too if I'd lived in the 50s or 60s :P
Went to Hetjes Museum beside the Film Museum, just because it's free! :P
It was 4pm, an hour before its closing time, and I was the only one there. hahah.. So boring, took some pics, and went to walk around Altstadt (Old Town).
Met Keaton at 5:30pm at Jacobistrasse and went to the Sky Lounge on the rooftop of Galleria Kaufhof! Weather was great at this time. Sat there, enjoyed the sun, chatted, had a Radler... Feels like we're at the beach! So chill~
Skies turned grey soon after. AGAIN!! Weather has been crazy here in Düsseldorf! Went to an Italian restaurant Keaton's colleague recommended. His colleague, Christian, and his gf joined us too! Christian's 22 this year and is really handsome!!! Lovely couple :)
After dinner, we walked around, towards the Fun Fair (Größte Kirmes am Rhein) on the other side of Altstadt!! The Kirmes Fest was AMAZING! The size of it is probably at least 20 times bigger than Pasar Malam at Causeway Point in Singapore; there were at least 50 different rides and games, the stalls were all GIANT-sized and BEAUTIFULLY decorated with FLASHING lights and ARTISTIC drawings; and there were SO MANY PEOPLE!!! Apparently, the 9-days long fun fair is visited by 4 Million people every year!!
Me amazed and thrilled by the rides and crowd!
Walked about 20 mins and we barely reached the half of the Fun Fair. Keaton suggested we go for a ride! Was not really in an adventurous mood for thrill rides but Keaton was!! Went for this tower thing that brings u to the top and lets u free-fall down. (U know...)
Going down! AHHHHhhhhh.............!
Although it was not very high, it was damn scary!!! Screamed every time it went down and the German beside me kept looking at me and laughing!!! Couldn't stop shaking for 5 mins after we got off. FUN!!!
Bought a Fish Sandwich. Super oily~!
At 10:30pm, there were fireworks!!! Almost every stall at the Fun Fair stopped operating; some even switched off their lights! It was, in my opinion, not the best fireworks I've seen (those in SG is better!) but the 25 mins long fireworks display was the highlight of the Fun Fair! Glad that I came at the right time :D
Pretty lights :)
It's so unbelievable how all these are set up for just 9 days of operation. After that, it would all be gone!! The rides were priced reasonably (€2-€5 each ) but it amounts to alot when accummulated! Short. But PROFITABLE!! hehe

Went for another ride that was less thrilling but quite fun!! Didn't seem very fast but on it, it's different! Believed that I squashed Keaton half to death on the ride!!
