Hamburg Hamburg here we come!
Went to work at 9:30am. Had lots to do. Boss has been busy cos my other boss is not around for 2 days and has been quite intimidating, demanding. Probably not in a good mood I think =X Everyone at work is quite tensed as well. Maybe because of the weather? Too hot to work in the afternoon. And no air con!!!
Anw, I arranged to meet Allison 20 mins before our bus leaves, at 8:40pm at Kaiserdamm U-Bahn Station. Left work at 6pm, had a small dinner at home, copied down impt info such as address, directions, etc and it was 7:30pm already!! Had to leave by 8pm and I started panicking. Took a shower, packed minimally and hurried off.
I reached there on time but Allison wasn't there yet. Worried that the bus station was far away, I left for the bus station first. 10 mins passed and she still hasn't appeared. Decided to call her but I realised I don't have her number. And neither does she have mine! Tried calling Jose twice but his phone was off. Headed for the U-bahn 200m away again, hoping that she might be waiting there but no. She was still nowhere to be found! 'Where are u Allison!!'
9pm. 5 minutes before the bus leaves. Perspiring, anxious, afraid that she wouldn't turn up, I decided to look around the area one last time before boarding the bus. Alone. Suddenly, I see a girl walking around at a platform far away, as if she's looking for someone. It was Allison!! Waved and caught her attention and I felt so relieved!!! I was so prepared to travel alone already but SO glad that I didn't give up waiting and she turned up at the last minute! :D
Reached Hamburg at 1230am. It was dark. The city looks clean and orderly, without as much graffiti and punks as in Berlin. Realised that I didn't bring the piece of paper that contains information of our "couch provider". Good thing I attempted drawing the map out, so I knew how to get there!
As mentioned, it's our first time couchsurfing and our host is Philip, a WHU alumni who graduated last summer. He lives alone now in Hamburg and has an extra room with a mattress and a big couch.
After arriving, we chatted for some time, about our plans, his company, etc. Whilst chatting, Philip mentioned that there is a Schanzenfest that takes place every year in the Schanzenviertel (Schanzen quarter), which is filled with pubs and restaurants and is also the area where the left-wing supporters reside. They're usually punks who live there without paying rent. The interesting thing was that the festival always ends up with riots after it gets dark and people will start setting things on fire. It sounded lame to me at first cos there wasn't a real purpose in rioting; they just wanted to get attention and... have riots!! -.- but at the same time, it sounds so exciting!! I would like to see riot! =X
It was late, we washed up and slept soon after. I slept on the couch tonight! :D
